The sculpture is a relief portrait of a man depicted in profile view facing left. His facial features are prominently detailed, with a prominent nose, closed lips, and a distinguished hairline. The material of the sculpture appears to be made of bronze or a similarly hued metal, exhibiting a rich brown coloration with a slightly oxidized surface, visible through some dark spots. The relief is mounted on a rectangular plaque with text inscribed at the bottom reading "EDMOND DE GONCOURT."
