About this work
Saint-Pierre cathedral, Geneva, Switzerland - Stained glass windows in the Chapelle des Maccabées - Details. The Chapel of the Maccabees, also known as the Notre-Dame collegial chapel, was transformed into a storage facility for salt and gunpowder during the Reformation, however, by the close of the 17th century, it served as the location for philosophical lectures held by the Academy, an early form of Geneva University. Currently, it is one of the most visited tourist-cultural places in Geneva, guests can participate in concerts hosted in this historic venue and it is also utilized for weddings and family events. The stained glass windows in the Chapel of the Maccabees in Geneva, are attributed to the workshop of Janin Loyel, dating back to around 1460.
