About
Pagan Invasion Volume 7: Evolution, From Physics to Metaphysics is the seventh installment of the Jeremiah Films series hosted by Chuck Smith and Caryl Matrisciana. The program examines how the theory of evolution has expanded from a biological claim into a metaphysical and spiritual worldview that forms the basis of the New Age movement. The program argues that evolutionary science has become a religion of its own, with British biologist L. Harrison Matthews acknowledged to have written that belief in evolution is in essence a religious one, analogous to belief in special creation.
The program covers the history of humanist ideology in public education, tracing it to a 1981 meeting in Washington D.C. at which leading evolutionary scientists, including Frank Press of the National Academy of Sciences and figures from the ACLU, coordinated a strategy to ensure evolution remained the exclusive framework taught in schools. Isaac Asimov is quoted arguing that teaching alternative views would require students to discard their sense of logic. The Louisiana 1981 Balanced Treatment law requiring equal time for creation science alongside evolution is discussed and its Supreme Court defeat is traced. A biology teacher facing institutional pressure for questioning evolution is profiled. The program also examines Erasmus Darwin, Charles Darwin's grandfather, whose books Zoonomia and The Temple of Nature anticipated evolutionary theory, and the role of John Dewey as the father of modern education and his connection to humanist ideology. The New Age connection is made through analysis of children's textbooks that incorporate god-consciousness concepts alongside evolutionary theory, and a New Age educational consultant whose materials are used in schools is identified. The program closes with a meditation on the intricacies of the eye, ear, heart, and human brain as evidence of design that logic cannot attribute to chance. The tape runs approximately 46 minutes.
