Linguistic Typology Through Indian Languages
Prof. Bornini Lahiri Prof. Dripta Piplai (Mondal) · IIT Kharagpur
About
Languages are diverse, however the features which make them different are not innumerable. These features are called parameters. Typology aims to look for those (limited) parameters. The present course will train the students about the basics of linguistic typology and language universals. It will also mention the contrasting alternative approaches to language universals research. Structures of various Indian languages will be discussed in order to understand the various parameters of language and to understand Language Universals.
Intended audience: UG & PG Students of Linguistics, Research Scholars of Linguistics and related disciplines
Prerequisites: Not required but it will be helpful for the students if they have completed an introductory course in linguistics.
