About this work

This multiband study of the Orion Nebula covered the near infrared, red, green, and blue bands along with H-alpha and [O III] emission. This image was assembled from the red, green, and blue data channels to produce a true color image. To the naked eye, the Orion Nebula looks gray because our eyes are not sensitive to the deep red H-alpha band under dark conditions. Instead, we see the teal emission of the H-beta and O-III band combined with Rayleigh scattering of the light of the Trapezium by dust. However, taking long exposures even with a cheap camera will reveal the true color of the nebula.
