About
Amythyst Kiah is a singer-songwriter based in Johnson City, Tennessee and a rising star in folk music. Over Kiah’s three solo albums, she has blended American roots music with rock n’ roll, Eastern spirituality, and dynamic songwriting. Kiah also is part of the supergroup, Our Native Daughters, alongside Rhiannon Giddens, Allison Russell, and Leyla McCalla. In 2020, Kiah was nominated for a Grammy Award for “Best American Roots Song.” For this solo performance, Kiah will be featuring songs written during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Kiah’s performance is held as part of “From Lived Experience to Public Memory: Commemorating, Documenting, and Archiving Experiences of the COVID-19 Pandemic”—a two-day symposium organized by the American Folklife Center, to investigate the intersections of COVID-19 and cultural heritage. The symposium is part of the COVID-19 American History Project – a Congressionally mandated initiative to document Americans’ stories of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The performance is also part of the American Folklife Center’s Homegrown Concert Series, which brings the best in American vernacular music to Capitol Hill.
