About
Los Angeles-based duo Calling Cadence performing the song “Faded Coat of Blue” from a field recording of unaccompanied singer Hamilton Lobdell, recorded by Robert Draves in Mukwonago, Wisconsin on June 24, 1941. From the Robert F. Draves and Helene Stratman-Thomas collection of Wisconsin recordings (AFC 1941/012: AFS 4963 B02). The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2024. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
