About
Violist Roberto Díaz was joined by musicians from “Curtis on Tour” (including Judy Zhuo, mezzo-soprano, Jaques Forestier, violin, and Lynn Ye, piano) for a performance at the Library. The event featured the official unveiling of the Fulton, ex-Baird, Tuscan-Medici Stradivari viola, which had recently been purchased for the Library after previously being on loan to it for many years. With its acquisition the Library now has 2 Stradivari violas, out of about 10 that remain in the world. As part of the program the musicians performed works by Mozart, Handel/Halvorsen, and Brahms.
Program: [11:03] Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Duo in G major for violin and viola, K. 301 Allegro [33:51] George Frideric Handel/Johan Halvorsen Arrangement for violin and viola of Handel’s Passacaille from the Suite for Keyboard in G minor, HWV 432 [42:51] Johannes Brahms Two songs, op. 91 I. “Gestillte Sehnsucht” [49:38] Johannes Brahms Two songs, op. 91 II. “Geistliches Wiegenlied” [57:16] Johan Sebastian Bach Suite for solo cello no. 1 in G major Allemande.
