He was the first artist featured in the Center’s inaugural Archive Challenge in 2015 and his repertoire includes many songs and tunes he learned from recordings of master musicians in the American Folklife Center archives. He learned “Old Corn Liquor” from NEA National Heritage Fellow Joe Thompson (1918-2012). The American Folklife Center’s recordings of Joe Thompson and his relatives are collection AFC 1976/033, and can be heard in the Folklife Reading Room.
