About

Garcia is a creator, writer, storyteller and director of the 2022 short film "Daughter of the Sea." She is a co-founder of Botánica Pictures (2023) and has worked as a contest strategist, creator and producer at Buzzfeed (2017-2022), as a staff writer for Disney Television Animation (2022-2023) and as a producer and writer for a multitude of other projects. Her credits include the Webby Award-winning series, "Mi Quinceañera Come True" (2019) and her first short-film "Sam" (2014). "Daughter of the Sea" is the result of her 2022 LALIFF Inclusion Fellowship, has received 19 awards and is still showing in film festivals worldwide. Integral to the artistry Garcia's work is also the drive to create space for critical conversations that inform and uplift the Latino community across TV and digital media. "Cine Latine: Shaping Latino Representation at the Movies" is the work of 2023 Library of Congress Junior Fellows and highlights the Library's vast moving image collections, while emphasizing the importance of Latino contribution and representation within the history of U.S. cinema. The interview series accompanies the Latinx Representation in Film Research Guide by showcasing emerging and established Latino or Latina filmmakers whose work is making a significant impact on the industry.
