About
Kluge Staff Fellow James Werner will present findings from his research on the United States' stewardship of long-term nuclear and other hazardous materials sites. The focus of his research has been on the technical and institutional methods used and proposed by U.S. and other government agencies, as well as how private organizations seek to ensure long-term stewardship of nuclear materials and sites contaminated with radioactive and other hazardous materials after cleanup has been completed. He will discuss how a strategy of "rolling stewardship," combined with independent regulation, may be the best near-term option to provide confidence in the "cleanups" and how we are spending more than a trillion dollars while we continue to produce more of these materials.
