About
The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2022. This video features singer-songwriter Dan Weber from Dallas, Texas, performing the song "Deep Ellum Blues" from a field recording of singer and guitarist Merle Lovell, recorded at Shafter FSA Camp in Shafter, California in 1940. From the Charles L. Todd and Robert Sonkin Migrant Workers Collection, AFC 1985/001: AFS 04117b02.
