About

Nashville-based singer-songwriter Tim Easton performing the song “Spike Driver/John Henry (Spike Driver’s Blues)” from a recording of Mississippi John Hurt made at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. in 1963. Mississippi John Hurt Recordings Collection, AFC 1964/003: AFS 12028 A2. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in New Orleans, Louisiana in 2020. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
