About
With “My end is my beginning,” the gorgeous voices of Ars Nova Copenhagen linked the worlds of Machaut and Gibbons to those of the 20th-century and beyond. Known for their performances of early and new music, the ensemble led by Paul Hillier is equally at home voicing the Cries of London and Copenhagen. This video includes excerpts from their performance by Machaut and Gibbons. The concert took place at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Washington, DC. Program: [00:00] “Guillaume de Machaut Ma fin est mon commencement”; [03:51] Orlando Gibbons/Paul Hillier “The Cries of London”; [09:44] Orlando Gibbons “What is our life.”
