About
Canadian clawhammer banjo player and singer Eliza Doyle performing the song “Naomi Wise” from a field recording of Minnie Floyd, recorded by John Lomax at the home of folklorist Genevieve Chandler in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, on July 12, 1937. From the John A. Lomax Southern States collection, 1937 (AFC 1937/007: AFS 1301 A1). The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress challenged musical artists to interpret material from its unparalleled archive of ethnographic recordings of traditional folk music. Artists were asked to put their own spin on these archival treasures, and to perform them at a special showcase during the Folk Alliance International conference in Kansas City, Missouri in 2024. The showcase was recorded for this webcast.
