Voltes V

1977's Voltes V begins as a clear iteration on the formula established by previous cartoons, but it takes a hard left turn midway through when the show reveals a complex system of feudalism and racial slavery which underpins the alien invader's society. Deciding that its not enough to only protect the Earth, the protagonists join the revolution and plot liberation.
Sunrise's third super robot cartoon is a wildly theatrical work which features characters with nesting secret identities, disguised loyalties, disguised motives, hidden parentages and birthrights, as well as flying building that click together like legos to form even larger flying buildings. Everything is something else. Everyone is someone else.
This video is a showcase and analysis of the entirety of the 40 episode series. The video and subtitles are from the 2019 Discotek Blu-ray release.
