About
"HELL NIGHT" Original First Released Video on VHS Format from Media Home Entertainment, Inc. (1982)
"Pray for day."
This was the opening to the very first home video release from icon Media Home Entertainment, Inc. (before Heron Communications Company's affiliation) in 1982 from Compass International Pictures "Rated-R" by the MPAA.
The video company used the same exact version from Compass International Pictures' original film print (compare DVD and Blu-ray 4KTransfers) and had a countless number of reprints in 1984 and 1986. Before 1989, Media retired the reprints for the film and was soon acquired by Video Treasures recording the original film print with dull quality in the unusual LP (Long Play) Mode. However, the company continued to use the original theatrical poster with a screaming Blair (of "The Exorcist") on the cover trying to escape at the gates of the spiked fortress mansion with a fright of monstrous hands grabbing her from below.
The independent film was unfortunately a flop at the Box Office due to it's competition with other cult horror films, but in the 1980s proved to be successful with repeated airings throughout the decade of the '80s on Cable Television (HBO and Cinemax; in the 1990s USA Network); also did fairly well on the Independent Television Stations such as WOR-TV's "Fright Night" Late Show and WOR-TV's "Four O'Clock Movie" Showcases.
The story concerns four pledgees on Initiation Night (a.k.a. "Hell Night") into Alpha Sigma Rho Fraternity and it's Sister Sorority, who agree to spend one night (a remaining six hours) in a mysterious and rumored to be haunted Century old Garth Mansion, which was, according to legend, rumored to be the Estate of a murderous hideously deformed and maniacal family with one surviving member who is believed to still reside in the Mansion waiting and hiding with his blood lust unabated. The four pledgees are soon swept into an unforeseeable nightmare... as they discover the truth of the history of the Garths and soon go missing one-by-one. Now that pledgee Marti (Linda Blair) knows the truth, all she wants to do is leave the manor unscathed, but discovers the spiked gated fortress of the mansion is virtually impossible to climb, leaving no room for escape!
Starring Linda Blair, Vincent Van Patten, Peter Barton, Jenny Neumann, Kevin Brophy, Suki Goodwin, Jimmy Sturtevant.
From the Makers of John Carpenter's "Halloween" comes a new Darkside of Terror! Hell Night Theme Performed By Leza Miller.
