About

"Das Duell II" is an early 1995 cut of Heiko Fipper's 1999 party-splatter classic "Das Komabrutale Duell."

The story of "Das Komabrutale Duell" began in 1985, when 15-year-old German director Heiko Fipper completed his first feature-length film: the 40-minute Super-8 amateur splatter epic "Das Duell." This film, as well as his 5-minute short "Das Friedhofmassaker" (1985) would serve as the foundation for "Das Komabrutale Duell's" inception. While footage from these early efforts would later be used in the final cut of "Das Komabrutale Duell," the original films have yet to see a release, like much of Heiko's other early work. After a brief hiatus, Heiko would make countless other shorts throughout the 80's and 90's, shooting primarily on Super-8 and Video-8. Of these titles were "Dschungel der lebenden Toten" (1989), "Feuertod" (1992), and "Blut & Knochen" (1994) among many others.

10 years after making "Das Duell," Heiko decided to start a new project. Now shooting on the Super VHS-C format, his aim was to make the "hardest, bloodiest, most outrageously brutal" film to ever come from the country of Germany. After four years of arduous work, blood, sweat and tears, "Das Komabrutale Duell" was unleashed upon on the world in 1999.

However, before the final film as we know it materialized, a much earlier and rougher version of the film was completed in 1995, titled "Das Duell II." This early cut was edited entirely on tape with all of the sound effects, music and dubbing performed live by Heiko (the final film was edited digitally with Adobe Premiere Pro v4.2). "Das Duell II" saw a single public screening in 1996 but has remained largely unseen by the public eye until now, where it can finally be enjoyed in all its bloody glory!
