Astronomy 100 ★ College Level introductory Astronomy course in HD1080 - with MKV

. _ . My thanks goes out to Ian Parker for donating this Complete Series to the Lost Telecourses collection.

(Archivist's Note: This is the NEW Golden Age of Astronomy ... starting in the late 2020's ... The James Webb deep infrared telescope has provided so much new information about what was happening in the Universe - right after the Big Bang - that it has WRECKED our existing cosmological models! We have seen mature galactic clusters … when we thought that the universe was impossibly young to have had them. Once again, in the field of Astronomy, we have a lot more questions than answers: and we need bright young minds to postulate new models … and ask many many questions. This Course is very timely.)

Astronomy 100 is a series of 104 - quarter hour long lectures - on Astronomy, filmed in HD 1080 format, by Palomar College Television. ASTRONOMY 100 - Principles of Astronomy by Mark Lane - Professor of Astronomy and Planetarium Director. Three hours of lectures per week - in two 90 minute (per week) classes … The fundamental nature of the night sky as understood by pre-20th century scientists. Properties of the solar system, black holes, galaxies, and extragalactic objects. Interstellar communication and extraterrestrial life.

Description: An introduction to the science of astronomy and the nature of the universe. Topics include observation and movements of celestial bodies, exploration of celestial phenomena, the physics of light, and the nature of stars and galaxies. Class Notes: Enrolled students will access course materials and participate in class activities through Canvas: https://www.palomar.edu/atrc/lms-login/

The joke is on me: I was donated this series - but there was no series information, or playlist, to reference this to - so I had planned to post this hot mess on April 1st. And it splashed down a week ahead of schedule: making me feel like I had just phoned this one in - when it was actually a tough assignment! I had to make up the order they will be shown in - from their original alphabetical ordering.

Subjects discussed include: Understanding what we see in the night sky / Moon Phases / Changing Seasons / Mechanics of Eclipses / Physics of Orbiting Bodies / Physics of Light / Technology of Astronomy and Spectroscopy / Telescopes and Appendages / Stars and Star Life Cycles / Universe Structure and Galaxies.

This course has been taught since 2013 - and you can still take this class, at this college, with this instructor. I regret not having a proper playlist, or course guide, or even a book to refer you to. I prefer to add as many supplemental materials as I can: and I didn't even have the proper order to show these lectures in - I hope I guessed right! This is just kicking at a rock, that happened to be nearby, in frustration: https://pages.palomar.edu/mlane/

So, you download this series for offline study: and then you play these episodes in the order that makes sense to you - the numbers I put on them are mere suggestions. I'm sure I got a few in the wrong order … you try combing 104 boiled strands of spaghetti out straight: and see how easy it is … now you can try. At least I left each episode's name the same as it was: and you just have to see which group belongs in which order.
