About
Sting: The Soul Cages Concert is a VHS recording of a 1991 performance from the Soul Cages Tour, supporting the album of the same name. The set draws primarily from The Soul Cages and Sting's earlier solo catalog, with a significant block of Police covers in the encore. Sting performs with a band that includes guitarist Dominic Miller, drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, and keyboardist David Sancious, whom he introduces by name during the show. The set opens with All This Time, performed with the lyric's characteristic river imagery, followed by the tour's album-driven sequence including Mad About You, Jeremiah Blues Part 1, and Why Should I Cry for You.
The middle section includes Ain't No Sunshine (Bill Withers cover), I Miss You Kate, and a run of Police-era songs. The album sequence resumes with Island of Souls, The Wild Wild Sea, The Soul Cages, and When the Angels Fall before the encore, which includes Purple Haze (Jimi Hendrix cover) and Message in a Bottle. Sting closes with a brief thank-you before the band takes their final bow. The program runs approximately 85 minutes.
