About

Reader's Digest King of Kings: A Musical Celebration is a devotional music video produced by Reader's Digest presenting the life of Jesus Christ through a sequence of choral and orchestral performances interspersed with narration and dramatic recreations. The program opens with a full choral rendition of the Hallelujah Chorus before narration introduces the prophecy of Emmanuel and the betrothal of Mary and Joseph in Nazareth. Musical selections include "O Come, O Come Emmanuel," the Ave Maria, a narrated account of Mary and Joseph's journey to Bethlehem and the birth of Jesus, a setting of "You'll Never Walk Alone" accompanying the calming of the storm, and "Down the Via Dolorosa" covering the Passion narrative including the crucifixion.

Additional segments present the parables of the Good Samaritan, the Sower, the Prodigal Son, and the Lost Sheep with brief narration. The program also includes "Were You There (When They Crucified My Lord)," "Holy Holy Holy," a narration of the Resurrection and post-Resurrection appearances, and a closing extended performance of the Hallelujah Chorus. The program runs approximately one hour and forty-nine minutes, with the majority of the runtime given over to instrumental and choral performance with limited narrated content after the 13-minute mark.
