About
A three-part television film on the life of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, directed by Joachim Burkhardt and produced by TransTel, Cologne, Germany. Broadcast by Deutsche Welle in West Germany. Burkhardt later wrote about his experience making the film in his book Ein Film für Goethe: Eine Erinnerung, Daedalus, 1993.
The film was widely distributed in the United States among academic students of the German language and culture. The University of Iowa Project for International Communication Studies published it on VHS in 1995, and it was later converted to DVD format in 2007. It does not appear to have a cohesive title in the original German, the three parts typically being collectively referred to simply as Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, but in English-language redistribution it has been retitled The Life of Goethe: "Light, more light!"
