Visual Programming in Data Flow Environments
Sponsored by Silicon Graphics, Inc.
Lecture Summary:
The use of visual programming has become more common over the past few years. Visual programming can fill the need for an easier alternative to traditional programming brought about by the increasing number of computer users and programmers. This lecture discusses visual or iconic programming in general as well as visual programming in a data flow environment. Design alternatives are discussed for visual data flow implementations. Live examples are used to illustrate the techniques presented.
About the Speaker: Craig Upson is director of engineering in charge of end user tools at Silicon Graphics, Inc. His varied background includes large-scale numerical simulations, computer animations and graphics algorithms, feature film work in Hollywood and sotware system design. Over the past several years he has developed two commercially available visual programming-based application creation systems.
Intended User: Upper-division and graduate level courses in programming, visual languages, graphics and GUI, program visualization, seminars, corporate and personal libraries.
