Welcome to the Autism Parent Club Podcast!

Are you parenting a child with autism and navigating the challenges of high support needs, communication barriers, challenging behaviors, medical concerns, or the uncertainty that comes with this journey? You’ve found your people.

We’re Chris and Becky—parents to a 19-year-old son with Level 3 autism and very high support needs. Each week, we share real-life stories from our journey, the things we’re learning along the way, and honest conversations about the joys, challenges, uncertainty, and everything in between.

In this episode:

As autism parents, we spend so much time working alongside schools, therapists, doctors, and other professionals who care deeply about our kids. But what happens when we don’t agree with them? In this episode, we’re talking about the uncomfortable tension that can come when you see your child’s situation differently than the people supporting them. We talk about the “mama bear” instinct, the guilt that can come with speaking up, and how you can advocate for your child while still maintaining a good relationship with their team. We talk about the Reticular Activating System (RAS)—and how what we focus on can sometimes become the lens through which we see everything. Ultimately, this is a conversation about learning to trust your instincts, stay open to other perspectives, and remember that advocating for your child doesn’t have to mean fighting with the people who love and support them. We’re building something new!
