James Sexton, a divorce lawyer, told Lewis that everyone should spend an hour with someone like him before the wedding. As he puts it, in marriage, there's no way to know if you're doing well at it.

James borrows a line from his sister, a dentist: by the time your tooth hurts, it's too late. So talk candidly with couples who would still pick each other, and with people whose marriage broke down.
