Militärisches Testgebiet für die Ringstraße

Vom Militär geprägt ist der Bezirkstteil Rossau, der sich entlang des Rings von der Votivkirche bis zum Donaukanal erstreckt. Das einstige Glacis diente quasi als "Testgebiet" für die Stadterweiterung entlang der Ringstraße. Einige Bauwerke wie die Votivkirche und die Rossauer Kaserne sind heute noch zu sehen, andere wie das "Schmerling-Theater", der provisorische Sitz des Abgeordnetenhauses des Parlaments, die Hinrichtungsstätte am Rabenstein und der orientalisierte Tandelmarkt sind Geschichte.
