Das markanteste Gebäude des Alsergrunds ist wohl das von Friedensreich Hundertwasser gestaltete Fernwärmekraftwerks Spittelau. Auch die weißen Gebäude der ehemaligen WU und des Biozentrums der Universität Wien, die die Gleise der einstigen Franz-Josefs-Bahn Richtung Westböhmen überdecken, sind charakteristisch für die Bezirksteile Spittelau bzw.
