Principles Of Economics
Prof. Sabuj Kumar Mandal · IIT Madras
About
In this course, I discuss the important concepts and principles of economics to understand how the economic agents take economic decisions to maximize their utility/profit/satisfaction, how the resources are allocated efficiently and the economy as a whole works. I discuss the concepts like demand, supply and elasticity to understand how consumers take decisions to buy, how the producers take decisions to supply and the gains from trade arise. Implications of government policies are also discussed using simple tools of demand and supply. Theories of production and cost are discussed to understand firms behaviour in different market condition. At the macro level, I discuss measuring national income, functioning of financial and monetary systems and their role. At the end I also discuss about money growth and inflation. A successful completion of this course will help students taking better economic decisions in their lives and understanding the implications several public policies from an economist’s perspective.
