Applied Production Analysis using MATLAB
Prof. Vipin V · IISER Bhopal
About
In today’s data-driven era, production economics in general, and efficiency and productivity analysis in particular, have become indispensable tools for evaluating the performance of decision-making units. Advanced methods of efficiency and productivity analysis are widely applied in empirical research across economics and allied disciplines, including agriculture, energy and environmental studies, operations research, banking, healthcare, manufacturing, transportation and communication utilities, and various branches of engineering.
This course will help students and researchers become familiar with the concepts of efficiency and productivity analysis and their applications across diverse fields of specialization using MATLAB.
Learning Objectives :
To understand the fundamental concepts of production economics and their real-world applications.
To familiarize participants with parametric and non-parametric approaches for measuring the efficiency and productivity of decision-making units, along with their implementation using MATLAB.
To apply efficiency and productivity analysis tools using MATLAB in various research domains, including healthcare, energy, education, agriculture, banking, and environmental performance assessment.
Moreover, the course will include hands-on estimation of efficiency and productivity using widely used datasets, such as the CD-FIT dataset (the original dataset used by Cobb and Douglas), manufacturing data from Prowess IQ, and data from official sources such as ASI and KLEMS.
In summary, this NPTEL course will be among the first to integrate MATLAB programming with efficiency and productivity analysis in economics and allied disciplines.
Intended audience: Researchers and students of EconomicsResearchers and students of ManagementStudents specializing in Applied MathematicsIndustry analysts with a focus on the performance evaluation of decision-making units, including firms, NGOs, and government organizations
