8.7.7: Visual Exercise Environments and Treadmill Running

In section 3.7.2 we learned about a study that investigated the effect of visual stimulation on the performance of individuals exercising on a treadmill. This was a research study based on recruitment of participants who, in this case, were individuals who exercised at least 150 minutes per week. At the most, the results of this study are applicable to individuals who exercise regularly and were willing to take part in the study. Unfortunately, few details are given on how the individuals were recruited and what specific population they were recruited from. This raises serious concerns about the general applicability of the study to the larger population.
