    1.5: Bloom's Taxonomy

Bloom's Taxonomy is another good way to think about this idea of "what is reading?" and "how is active reading different than what I've done before?" type questions.

In short, in most college classes, simply comprehending or understanding the text is not always enough to get a good grade in the class. The instructor will often ask you to do things that go "beyond comprehension."

So, what's "beyond comprehension" in a college course? [Note that these models are not uniquely different from the models in the previous pages, it's more just a different way of looking at it. When I read actively, those question stems and/or skills and/or strategies should be helping you first understand the text but, more importantly, help you move into the "higher" levels of Bloom's Taxonomy.]
