Topic 3.3: Supervision and Support Networks

All adult learners in practicum placements must be supervised to ensure the welfare of both the children and the teacher-in-training. Participation in a formal mentoring program strengthens supervision quality and consistency. Many states have developed early childhood mentor programs. For instance, the California Early Childhood Mentor Association (CECMA) partners with community colleges to provide guidance for students and professionals. Similar programs exist in New York, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Colorado, Iowa, and Michigan, each supporting professional development through reflective and relational practice.
