Topic 6.4: The NAEYC Code as Our Foundation

Becoming familiar with the NAEYC code of ethics and the supporting documents gives us clarity and focus for our teaching practices. The ethical responsibilities specific to adult educators in professional preparation programs is particularly meaningful for Mentor/Coaches and their mentees. However, we can examine the entire Code of Ethics, starting with the Educator’s ethical responsibility to the children (NAEYC, 2024, pp. 4-9) (See Appendix A). Examining the educator’s ethical responsibility to children and the expectations from the NAEYC, is a wonderful beginning reference point for the Mentor/Coach and they should eventually intentionally share this NAEYC information with the Mentee.
