    2.7: Summary

Educators make daily decisions that reflect their values, beliefs, and commitments. Understanding what drives these decisions begins with examining personal ethics and how they align with professional expectations. In early childhood education, ethical behavior isn’t just about knowing right from wrong, it’s about intentionally responding to situations in ways that uphold fairness, safety, and respect for all children.

To help guide ethical decision-making, educators look to professional codes that articulate shared values and moral commitments. These standards emphasize the importance of protecting children’s well-being, building relationships rooted in trust, honoring family partnerships, and fostering inclusive, nurturing learning environments. When educators are clear about their core values and act with intention, they are better equipped to make decisions that benefit children, families, and communities.
