    Chapter 4: Pharmacology Math

Medical assistants should be certain that the drug administered to the patient is the correct dose ordered by the provider. In many cases, the dose ordered by the provider may differ from the dose provided by the pharmacy or the pharmaceutical manufacturer. This requires the medical assistant to accurately perform pharmacology math so that the patient receives the correct dose. Accurately calculating the correct dose is of utmost importance for patient safety. What may be considered a minor calculation mistake can cause catastrophic complications for the patient. Therefore, the medical assistant is tasked with being meticulous when calculating all drug dosages.
