    2.9.1: Drug Actions

Providers consider many factors when deciding to prescribe a drug for a patient. After determining the patient’s diagnosis, they review a prospective drug’s indications for use, desired effects, side effects, adverse effects, interactions, and contraindications. Providers also review drug pharmacokinetics, onset, peak, duration, and biologic half-life.
