    2.7.1: The right drug

Choosing the right drug to administer includes utilizing the Three Befores or three checks to ensure the correct drug has been chosen. Check before taking the drug out of the supply area, check the drug before preparing it, and check the drug before putting it back in storage (or before disposing of the packaging).

    1. Check the drug against the provider order before taking it out of the supply area. The MA checks the correct concentration, spelling, and form of the drug that has been ordered.
    2. Check the drug against the provider order before preparing the drug. After gathering supplies, check the drug again before preparing the drug for administration.
    3. Check the drug against the provider order before putting the container back in the storage area or disposing of the packaging.
