    2.9.1.5: Systemic and Local Effects

Medications can have effects across the entire body or in a small area. For example, an antihypertensive medication will reduce blood pressure everywhere in the body, which is a systemic effect. On the other hand, hydrocortisone cream will only affect the area where it is applied, which is a local effect.
