    11.15: Nutrition and Disease

Proper diet and nutritional homeostasis promote survival and help prevent many diseases. Conversely, poor diets and malnutrition lead to the development of many abnormal conditions and diseases (e.g., atherosclerosis, osteoporosis, digestive system disorders) and amplify their consequences. Furthermore, age-related abnormal conditions and diseases (e.g., emphysema, dementia, digestive system diseases) contribute to poor diet and malnutrition.
