    4: Capitilo 4- Come stanno i tuoi?

    How are yours (your parents)?

In Italian, it’s very common to ask “Come stanno i tuoi?”, which translates to “How are yours (your parents)?” This idiomatic expression reflects how family is woven into everyday life in Italy. Friends don’t just ask about each other, but also also about their families, exemplifying how central family bonds remain in Italian culture.

Family, or la famiglia, has always been a cornerstone of Italian identity, though the idea of what a family looks like has evolved. Alongside traditional families, there are now many modern and diverse examples that reflect Italy’s changing society.

In this chapter, you will learn to talk about family and relationships and describe people and professions. You will also learn to express things you want, can, or must do using everyday Italian. Through stories and conversations, you will discover how language and culture reveal the many ways Italians live and think about family "ieri e oggi".
