2: Identifying and Learning about Logical Fallacies

Intro: In this lesson, you will be looking at texts rhetorically and looking for any logical fallacies within the text to help further determine if it should be used for your research. As a researcher, you are learning how to evaluate information from sources. Part of that evaluation happens on the sentence level. It is important to look at the language and word choice that a writer uses to get their point across to the reader. In order to write a successful research essay, you will need to be able to think about your essay rhetorically. What is the “real world plausible situation” that you want to create with your research project? You should be able to answer this question before you start writing your research essay.

SLO-Summarize, analyze, and evaluate the arguments, counterarguments, and evidence in the writing of others
