    12: Islamic Art

Islamic art is a mostly syncretistic art borrowing from earlier Jewish and Christian art and architectural forms. Images of Mohamed were not permitted since the emphasis was on Allah. Uses of script and intricate geometric patterning instead became a dominate overriding style. Great mosques and palaces are built during the Medieval period demonstrating the advanced technologies and engineering found in Islam. Many regions controlled by Muslims generally found successful governance, fair trading, and less corruption than the Byzantine counterparts.
