3.1.1: Women in the Interior I Museums Without Borders

by MUSEUM OF ART AND PHOTOGRAPHY | MAP

A seated woman in an interior setting is a common scene featured in artworks stretching across styles and mediums. In this episode, we look at two artworks–a painting by Henri Matisse from the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s collection and one by KG Subramanyan from MAP’s collection, in an attempt to unpack this iconography.

Linking collections around the world, Museums Without Borders is a unique digital collaboration between MAP and institutions in India and across the world. Ranging from six to ten minutes, each episode in this series juxtaposes an artwork from MAP with an object from a partner museum exploring commonalities and differences in style, subject or narrative.
