Opening the book…
In this chapter, we move from one-dimensional arrays to two-dimensional arrays. MATLAB was designed around matrices, so becoming comfortable with rows, columns, and indexing will make many future topics much easier.
- Create two-dimensional arrays, also called matrices, in MATLAB.
- Access individual elements, rows, columns, and subarrays using row and column indexing.
- Modify, extend, concatenate, flatten, and delete rows or columns of a matrix.
- Use logical indexing to find and manipulate values that meet specific conditions.
- Use built-in functions such as length, size, numel, max, min, zeros, ones, eye, reshape, find, and sort.
- Explain the difference between array operations and matrix operations.
- Apply 2D arrays to practical engineering-style data problems.
