    5.4.2: Dissolved Oxygen

    B. Dissolved Oxygen (DO) Concentrations in Creek/River water.

You are provided a ProSolo meter with a probe that measures the concentration of O2 in our water. The probe is stored with a gray rubber sleeve. At the bottom of the sleeve is a sponge that is saturated with water. The probe is calibrated by your instructor to the current barometric pressure, temperature, and 100% water saturation of the water-soaked sponge. The instrument is ready for analyzing samples.

Please turn on the meter (green button). Remove the gray sleeve and place the probe in 200 mL of tap water in a 400 mL beaker. Ensure the probe is immersed in the tap water. Record the temperature, pressure and DO in the table below. Record the units

Next, place the probe in the river/creek water sample. This water is stored in ice after collection to ensure that the gaseous solutes such as O2 is not lost.

The third sample is warm tap water. Ensure that the probe is immersed in the sample. Record temperature, pressure and DO of the tap water sample in the table below.
