    3.5.2: Oxidase Test Activity

In this activity you will test two bacterial samples.

    1. Obtain a sterile cotton swab and aseptically remove it from its packaging.
    2. Gently raise the lid to the agar plate containing the bacterial culture to be sampled and touch the swab to several bacterial colonies to obtain a bacterial sample.
    3. Hold the cotton swab with the bacterial culture over the staining tray and apply 2 – 3 drops of oxidase reagent to the cotton swab.
    4. Wait for 15 – 30 seconds, observe the color of the swab, and record the results.

In the table below write the name of the species tested and the results for each of the tests performed.
