The image shows a sketch of a man from the waist up, facing forward. He has a full, oval face with dark eyes and a slight smile. His hair is wavy, parted on the side, and framing his face with curls. He is dressed in a jacket, waistcoat, high-collared shirt, and a cravat or bow tie. The background is plain, focusing on the subject. The artist's signature and the year 1839 are visible below the portrait.
