About this work

Lineated barbet (Psilopogon lineatus) photographed at the National Botanical Garden of Bangladesh.

The lineated barbet is a medium-sized species found across various parts of Asia, primarily inhabiting tropical and subtropical regions. It is a common resident bird in Bangladesh, widely distributed throughout the country. It typically resides in evergreen and deciduous forests in both lowland and hilly areas, but is also frequently observed in parks, gardens, orchards, and agricultural lands.

This species is mainly frugivorous, feeding on a wide variety of wild fruits, seeds, buds, and insects such as grasshoppers, beetles, and termites. Occasionally, it may also consume small reptiles and other small creatures. In Bangladesh, its breeding season extends from February to July.

The parent barbets were seen tirelessly feeding their chick with fruits and insects over about 3–4 weeks. I captured this moment while maintaining a respectful distance from the nest to avoid any disturbance.
