줄거리 : 이조말엽, 백정의 자식으로 태어난 임꺽정(신영균)은 양반들의 횡포에 반기를 들고 학정에 시달려 방황하는 백성들을 청석골에 모여 살게 한 다음, 의적단을 조직하여 탐관오리를 무찌르고 도탄에 허덕이는 백성들을 구출하여 정국을 바로 잡는데 헌신한다. 어지러운 사회를 견디다 못해 산채에 모여든 화적들은 탐관오리들과 끝없는 싸움을 벌인다. 한편 임꺽정과 양주 목사의 딸(엄앵란), 용(최무룡)과 탄실(문정숙), 바위(박노식)와 사당귀신에게 생으로 바쳐질 뻔했던 처녀 복실(주난지)등의 러브 스토리가 부드럽게 겹쳐지며 드라마를 구성한다.

SYNOPSIS : During the later years of Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910), Lim Kkeok-jeong, a butcher's son, stands up against the aristocrats' tyranny and helps displaced people live in peace at a village he has established. He also forms a chivalrous robbers' band to get rid of corrupt officials. He dedicates himself to saving people from misery and teaching a lesson to the aristocrats and corrupted officials.
