Ontsnapt aan de dood. Dat gevoel heeft Eva Pilon-Schuyt (1920) haar hele leven gehouden. Bij het bombardement van Rotterdam valt een bom in een schuilkelder op de plek waar ze net daarvoor zat. In shock rent ze op die 14e mei 1940 door de straten van Rotterdam. Wat uren lijkt te duren is in drie kwartier een feit. Rotterdam ligt in as. Het monument 'De Verwoeste Stad' van Zadkine herinnert hieraan. Ze vertelt waarom ze een herdenking bij dit monument nog steeds niet aan kan.
